Welcome to Forum for Social Innovation Sweden's and The Institute for Sustainable Urban Development's report launch for Eco-social Interventions in Malmö – Capturing the“How”of Sustainable Urban Development.
What does eco-social interventions in Malmö look like? What roles do eco-social interventions play in supporting individual and household sustainable lifestyles and wellbeing? How do eco-social interventions adapt cities to support sustainable lifestyles and the wellbeing of all residents?
In this research study Carin Cuadra, Professor in social work at Malmö University and "border-crosser" at the Institute for Sustainable Urban Development, and Erin Tsunoda Kennedy, Doctoral student at Lund University and Project assistant at Malmö University, explore the concept eco-social interventions. By eco-social Interventions they mean: for profit businesses, non-profit organizations and social enterprises that contribute to social, economic, and ecological sustainability of a city and its residents. Eco-social interventions challenge “business as usual” by offering models of operation that prioritize social and ecological wellbeing and pathways to sustainable lifestyles.
Carin Cuadra and Erin Tsunoda Kennedy have identified and mapped eco-social interventions in Malmö, what they look like, how they work and what types of contribution they make to the city and the residents of Malmö, to get an initial overview. By doing this they want to capture the “how” of sustainable urban development within the City of Malmö. They also identify barriers, limitations and what forms of support actors working with eco-social interventions need to continue their work.
With their research and the report the authors want to contribute to the discussion on how for profit businesses, non-profit organizations and social enterprises can adopt models of operation that fit within Earth’s capacity and contribute to both the city’s sustainability goals and to individual sustainable lifestyles. The report also contains recommendations for practice and future research.
